About the Instructor
John Slaughter is a 3D Generalist who has been working with various 3D media since 2006, having formerly created content for the College of Science's Digital Visualization Theater as an Instructional Designer/Trainer. Since that time John has explored a variety of 3D projects that have utilized apps such as NewTek LightWave 3D, The Foundry's Modo, Autodesk Maya, Blender, and SideFX Houdini. John currently teaches two courses for the department of Computer Science and Engineering which delve into the fundamental aspects of a 3D animation and effects workflow, encompassing everything from basic modeling techniques to advanced simulations.
John is captivated by all forms of animation, having studied hand-drawn 2D animation, hand-painting animation cels, and creating digital animation in both 2D and 3D media. In their free time John also paints traditionally with oil paint on canvas, and often experiments with gouache on various paper mediums, and occasionally in watercolor. One of John's personal goals is to spend more time working in character animation, and expand into creating short films utilizing 3D media.
John also works for the department of Engineering & Science Computing as a Senior IT Specialist, managing server infrastructure, virtual computer labs, web services, network file services, as well as custom-code projects that require advanced programming.
